Ways of Dealing with Fever in Pregnancy

Fever has been seen as a common problem most pregnant women have to undergo. It is also taken quite seriously because the foetus is delicate and needs to be protected from any form of harm at the time of pregnancy. Mild fevers can be treated at home, while the persistent ones will require help from the doctor’s side.

An infection or injury is considered to be the main reason behind the occurrence of fever. The immune system is suppressed during the time of pregnancy making the body more prone to infections. The causes can be varied, from the common cold to urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Certain medications are prescribed to pregnant women that are considered to be safe until the first 12 weeks. Some of them are mentioned below:
Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Nasal Strips
Menthol rub
To keep it completely safe for the mother and the baby, you can try out some home remedies as well. They are mentioned below:

Watching Your Diet - You may have to let go of complex foods like wheat and meat. Try consuming boiled and light foods that are easy to digest. Lentils and rice are easily digestible and also provide sufficient amount of energy to the mother and baby. You can also have a bowl of salad containing onion, tomatoes, sprouts, and black salt to keep yourself healthy. Adding fruits to the diet will also help tremendously.
Staying Hydrated - You will have to supply a lot of fluids to your body when you havea fever. It will help you remain hydrated and cool. Having soups will also help in adding extra fluid to your body. Orange juice is a great alternative as it contains vitamin C. Green tea provides antioxidants in abundance that helps in fighting the fever off.
Cold Compress - Placing a clean and wet washcloth on your forehead will help in reducing the temperature as well. It is quite an effective remedy for fever.
Warm Bath - Taking a hot shower or bath with lukewarm water is known to be very effective in reducing the body temperature. However, avoid using cold water as it can worsen the condition.
