What is an acute liver failure?

Acute liver damage is a serious health issue. And this can occur rapidly in a few days or weeks after a person has been diagnosed with liver problems. It is less common compared to chronic liver failure but either way it is dangerous. In medical terms, it is called fulminant hepatic failure, and this complication can result in excessive bleeding as well as pressure in the brain. This medical hazard requires immediate hospitalization!

What are the symptoms?

You will notice signs like-

§  Yellowing of eyeballs, skin and jaundice
§  Pain in your abdomen
§  Swelling near the abdomen region
§  Nausea
§  Feverish at all times
§  Vomiting
§  Sleepiness
§  Disorientation

When you see such signs, you need to rush to a doctor for quick solutions. There are medicines that can help liver problems and transplant as well, but if you delay your visit to a doctor, it can end in a bad way for you.

How to prevent it?

1. If you have had any small liver problems in the past, talk to a doctor about the medicines and take them properly. Do not skip doses or overdose at all.
2. Control your alcohol intake. Make sure you are not consuming too much alcohol after the certain age. Men and women older than 60 should not have more than one drink a day, and for younger men, it should be two drinks maximum. If you consume a large amount of alcohol everyday, you are likely to have liver issues.
3. Get your routine health checkup and do not be careless. You should talk to your doctor about vaccinations of hepatitis B and A.
4. Avoid certain foods like wild mushroom, improve lifestyle habits of keeping smoking under control or avoiding it completely.
5. Exercise daily and balance a healthy eating habit so that you do not have fatty liver problems.

Even though liver problems can be fixed to a certain amount with medications if found early but going through the pain is tough. Don’t put yourself in so much stress and trouble, simply eat the right food, get your vaccination and stay away from wrong lifestyle habits that can cause a long-lasting health hazard.
