H1N1 flu virus: How is swine flu diagnosed and treated?
Swine
flu is caused by a virus called the H1N1 which affects the respiratory system
of a person. This infection can be diagnosed by a few tests and symptoms. If
you have secretions from your throat, nose passage and you feel extremely
feverish, you should head to a lab to get your blood samples done. Tests like
polymerase chain reaction will be done along with other tests that your doctor
will suggest. You may also have to get an x-ray done of your respiratory
system.
How is it treated?
Once you are tested positive with the virus in your body, there are several
medications used in order to banish the symptoms. When you have a case of
severe swine flu, it is advisable to get admitted in a hospital so that you are
not spreading the infection to others. You will be given a few drugs, constant
attention and your health will be monitored by the doctor. If your condition
starts improving after 2 days, you will recover from the disease, but if you
continue to have problems in your body, there are chances, you may not survive the
disease.
What else to do?
Even if your swine flu is getting better, always wear a mask and roam. Wash
your hands and do not go near others. It is advisable for families to take
vaccination and flu shots or medications so that they do not catch the flu.
Other than this, medicines like aspirin, advil or ibuprofen can reduce the body
ache and fever.
It is better to stay at home in a room and rest as much as you can with proper
food until your fever comes down. Once your fever has reduced, you don’t have
to worry about it turning into a severe problem.
Swine flu spreads like fire, and it is the best idea to either get admitted in
a hospital when severe or stay inside the house. You may end up affecting
others with a weak immunity system. For those with low immunity power can
quickly go from stage one to the last stage.
Eat properly and get all the tests done when you have flu.
